Elderly patients often experience difficulties in self-administering their eye medication, which may result in unnecessary wastage. Furthermore, the current practice of instilling eye drops directly from an eye drop bottle runs the risk of compromising the sterility of the eye drop bottle.
The modular EDG jointly developed by the Singapore institute and an eye centre is configured to address these concerns above and is in addition, adaptable to the different sizes of eye drop bottles and minims tips available.
Ensuring the accurate and independent self-instillation of eye medication, the EDG technology offered comprises an eye cup housing and an eye drop dispenser holder held together by magnets. A flexible and magnetic universal adaptor allows the snug fit of various sizes of eye drop bottles and minims, while flexible squeeze levers allow the eye drops to be easily dispensed from even stiff minims. The invention is easy to use and reduces the risk of contamination.
The institute is keen to establish a licensing partnership with MNEs or SMEs of all sizes where the partner could license the technology and further develop it to introduce it to its target market segments.
