Summary
A Danish company has won numerous prizes for its innovative raslysation systems. The systems use a non-thermal ultraviolet light treatment to replace pasteurisation in the beverage industry. The system increases product quality, while reducing energy and water usage in the process by 60-90% and 60-80% accordingly.
The goal is that by 2030, the company's equipment will have saved 1,000,000 tonnes of CO2.
The company wishes to expand into new markets via commercial agency agreements.
Description
The Danish company is located in Aalborg, Denmark. Based on several years of rigorous research and development, the company was founded in 2017. The company was built on an ambition to prove that microbial inactivation in milk could be done efficiently using UV light instead of pasteurisation.
Microbial inactivation in milk using UV light had never been successfully done before because the opaque liquid is nearly impossible to shine a light through. However, if this could somehow be accomplished, it would mean a big difference to the decarbonisation of the processing industry. For that reason, milk became the main focus of our research. Developing raslysation was only possible through evidence-based research and extensive consultation with a range of stakeholders from the dairy and juice industries, academia, public health experts and specialists. Combining all these inputs and the wish for change in the industry powered the way for sustainable change.
With its patented technology, the company can treat liquid products regardless of transparency and product type. Today the company is present in more than 10 countries, has more than 60+ employees, and expands daily. Due to its resource efficiency, raslysation facilitates several production processes related to liquid treatment.
The company's systems combine the most efficient method for removing pathogens - from bacteria to viruses and fungi - with efficient removal of excess heat. This combination safeguards the liquid from protein denaturation and keeps loss of vitamin and sensory values at a minimum. Cleaning (CIP) levels are reduced drastically as the absence of heat rids the particles from burning to the inside of the tubes. This results in a 60-80% reduction in water use and a 60-90% energy reduction. The neat design of the raslysation units makes life easier for your entire organisation; from the person on the floor to the CFO – How? By saving floor space, labour-intensive processes, working hours, resources, production time and money.
In 2023 the company has been awarded 3 different prices, in 3 different European countries, for their innovative solution for replacing pasteurisation.
