A Dutch division of a multinational company that produces and delivers meal kit boxes to consumers at home wants to reduce the weight of plastics that are used to pack meal ingredients.
Packaging plays a key role in the companies supply chain to keep food fresh and safe for their customers and also reduce food waste. Plastic is a valuable material for food packaging because it is light, strong, waterproof and relatively cheap. However, it is also largely difficult to recycle, non-renewable and potentially polluting, and has a negative customer perception.
Therefore the company wants to remove, reduce or replace the plastic packaging of their meal ingredients with sustainable alternatives. It concerns the plastic packaging of fresh herbs, meat, fish, vegetables, baked goods and dairy.
The packaging solutions should not negatively impact food safety and quality. It is also important that the packaging can be recycled. Packaging that is made from recycled material or from renewable resources are favoured. In addition the solution should also be suitable for implementation in cooperation with their ingredient suppliers.
Concluding: the company is looking for innovative sustainable food packaging solutions to set up a pilot including implementation with ingredient suppliers, within the framework of a commercial agreement with technical assistance
