The solution was designed and patented by 2 aerospace engineers, looking for easy way of producing off-grid renewable energy, continuously, without heavy infrastructure. They observed high altitude winds were more powerful and more constant than the winds used for traditional small wind turbines. Their wind turbine is using a kite canopy to lift a two blades rotor harnessing high altitude winds through a rope drive transmission. The electricity generated on the ground is used to create an autonomous electric network in 12 or 24 VDC. The system is fully autonomous, with a servo-controlled winch that can retract itself in case of low wind conditions. The solution can be used in remote places for water pumping, lighting, desalinization or to complement an existing off grid installation. Multiple kites can be connected in series to provide more power. The working area should be sufficiently clear, with no trees nearby and no obstacle within 50 meters. It is advisable to look at a weather website to gather data on the area wind profile, to better grasp the system ability to operate over the time of the day and season. Coastal areas are ideal locations for such a system. The French company is now seeking to enter into commercial agreements with technical assistance.
