A Polish company specialized in production, sale and assembly of aluminum and composite solutions, existing on the market since 2000, offers an active pedestrian crossing which is an advanced, “intelligent” system for marking and illuminating the crossing area. It is built on the basis of composite poles. The system is equipped with yellow warning lights installed inside the pillars standing on both sides of the road, in the place marked by vertical signs and horizontal lines of the crossing. Yellow warning lights generate a beacon directed at oncoming vehicles when a pedestrian in the waiting zone is detected. Simultaneously with the light signal, a voice message is triggered, which strengthens the vigilance of pedestrians, including the blind or visually impaired, as well as those who gaze at their smartphones, approach the crossing. As soon as the pedestrian exits the pedestrian crossing, the system stops emitting the generated warning signals and enters the standby mode, thanks to which drivers do not get used to the constantly flashing lights. The innovation of the solution is the passage of the warning light beam from the LED source through the transparent wall of the composite pole and obtaining very good visibility of this signal from a distance of 200 m. In addition, the composite poles of the presented solution system have passive safety features, thanks to which they do not pose a threat to drivers in the event of an accidental collision. The offered solution, according to its authors, means detection, warning and safety at the highest level.
The offered system is dedicated mainly to crossings located in cities, on communal roads, including pedestrian crossings designated at schools, hospitals, nursing homes, hypermarkets, and wherever the concentration of pedestrians poses a threat to road traffic. The most effective operation of the system is provided for crossings on single-carriageway, two-way roads and dual carriageways with two lanes in one direction.
