Summary

UK company based in the East of England has developed a radar technology for automatic incident detection on smart highways which rapidly detects stopped vehicles to prevent collisions. It is looking to establish a network of distributors and resellers to support its customers overseas.

Description

This UK company specialises in the design and manufacture of commercial radar and other microwave equipment. Established in 1993, the company was formed to develop transmission and system solutions for police, commercial and local authority applications.

It supplies equipment ranging from single communications links to complete national security systems. All equipment is at the forefront of technology and provides distinct operational benefits to the user.

It supplies directly to end-users and to multinational customers who incorporate their products into their systems. The company have considerable international experience and its systems are in use in over 40 countries worldwide.

The company’s latest technology is a stopped vehicle detection radar which has been designed, developed and manufactured in the UK. The technology is meant for stretches of road where there is Active Traffic Management in place.

The intelligent radar sensor rapidly detects stopped vehicles to alert operators with the aim of reducing traffic jams and preventing accidents. All carriageways are monitored in both directions. Upon detection the radar will immediately report the vehicle location to a control centre and optionally slew a nearby camera to point at the vehicle.

The system uses 24GHz radar technology to rapidly identify stopped vehicles and report the position to a central control room. The reliable detection technique is used to prevent a minor breakdown turning in to a major collision. The output data from each radar sensor can be customised to integrate with third-party equipment, such as traffic management systems and smart motorways for partial or full autonomy.

The technology can be applied to smart motorways, clearways, bridges, tunnels, major roadworks, accident "Blackspots" and all lane running (ALR) high roads.

The company is looking to establish a network of distributors and resellers to support their customers overseas under a distribution agreement.

Advantages & innovations

With a long history in systems design within commercial markets, its engineering background allows it to deliver a wealth of proven design and engineering expertise to its customers. The company is continually pioneering new technologies to provide innovative and robust solutions across a wide range of microwave technologies including radar and data communications applications. The stopped vehicle detection radar technology offers several advantages: • Not affected by fog, rain, mist or snow. • Not affected by smoke, fire, heat haze or hot gas. • Not affected by wet roads or water spray from vehicles. • Not affected by light level (works in total darkness & bright sunshine). • Long range operation compared to other technology. • Extremely low network data usage. • Low false alarm rate. • High reliability • Automatic control of compatible PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) camera • No operating license required in most countries • Uses POE (power over ethernet) technology – No external power supplies required • Useable range 500m (20m radius)
