Summary

A Serbian company has developed an innovative new sharp-edge technology which is capable of determining botanical origin, sugar and/or water addition to original fruit, honey or wine samples. The innovation has been granted a patent in over 30 countries in the world including US, Russian Federation and EU countries. The company is looking for industrial partners interested in commercial agreement with technical assistance, financial agreement and /or manufacturing agreement as such.

Description

A Serbian company manufactures analytical equipment used for verification and detection of illegal practices during production of wine, fruit juices, honey and spirits. At this stage it has scientific cooperation with 5 specialized isotope laboratories in the world (US, Austria, Hungary, PR of China and Russian Federation) and it cooperates with international team of over 10 world-class experts in the area of stable isotope analysis. It obtained granted patents in over 30 countries in the world including US, Russian Federation, EU. The company has an expert team which is involved in further development of its technology and which consists of electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, mechatronic engineers and technology engineers.
Its patented one of a kind instrumental analytical technique is based on measurement of stable isotopes in ethanol and used to analyze and certify the authenticity and origin of wine, honey, fruit juice and strong spirits products. Results obtained for a specific sample are always unique, repeatable, and provide a distinct product fingerprint. It has revolutionized measurement of relative ratio of non-exchangeable hydrogen stable isotopes in ethanol previously quantitatively extracted from samples tested. This method is capable of determining the geographical origin of the product by comparing analyzed samples with a reference database, and also capable of determining the addition of sugar and the amount of alcohol gained from other botanical source. Its patented method has also proven to be much faster and significantly more accurate than the currently available NMR method used for wine and honey authenticity testing. Even though there is no method for uncovering production practices used in strong spirit production our innovation is able to provide a unique fingerprint, which is impossible to replicate. This allows for easy identification of counterfeit product in the marketplace.
The company's specific instrumental analytical peripheral which, coupled to standard IRMS (isotope ratio mass spectrometry), is used for isotopic analysis of wine, fruit juices, honey and alcoholic beverages. Also it manufactures specific preparation automatic distillation system used for quantitative ethanol extraction from samples tested and for proposes of isotopic analysis. Also the company is manufacturing special apparatus for quantitative water extraction for isotopic analysis of beverage’s water.
The company is interested in:
1.Commercial agreement with technical assistance: it will offer acquisition of its equipment with the license agreement to use it and paired with technical support service and transfer of technology to the end users.
2.Financial agreement: it is offering an innovative project in return of share in the company to the right investor who would join the company and help the company bring this innovative method to the next level.
3.Manufacturing agreement: It is looking for a suitable partner with specific existing technological capacities and specialized in production of instrumental analytical equipment for stable isotope mass spectrometry. It is prepared to enter into manufacturing agreement under conditions to offer its innovative equipment to the potential partner so that he could expend his offerings and offer better instrumental configuration to the end users and in that way to accomplish more than the company could have done alone. In this case the company would give its support in all technical aspects and warranty on its part of the equipment and licensing agreement with the end user. Simply putted, the company gives its piece of equipment, the partner gives his piece of equipment, the company forms a configuration that is offered to the end user, with each party guaranteeing their own equipment and providing technical support and spare parts, and the company’s side also signing a license agreement with the user so that the user can legally use the company’s patent.

Advantages & innovations

The patented method (instrumental analytical technique) is the only method in the world capable of determining addition of sugar from C3 based industrial plants (beet, wheat, barley, corn, cane, rise, etc.) during production. It has also been proven to be significantly faster, more accurate and less expensive than all other techniques used for determining addition of sugar from C3 & C4 plants based on stable isotope analysis. Its equipment replaces 6 other individual and very expensive instruments used for laboratory testing: 1.Peripherals based on equilibrium technique mainly used for determination of δ18O values in wine and fruit waters. The innovation gives information about added water and δ18O values in wine water directly on its instrument with previous preparation of the sample 2.High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) peripherals for stable isotope analysis which are used for honey authenticity determination. Its equipment gives more accurate results about honey authenticity then HPLC – IRMS (isotope ratio mass spectrometry) based technology, since it can detect addition of diverse sugar syrups and also addition of C3 beet invert sugar syrup. This cannot be detected using HPLC-IRMS 3.Pyrolysis devices–its instrument also has pyrolysis reactor used in other devices and can be used for δD and δ18O values in solid and liquid samples; 4.Elemental analyzers–Its equipment can be upgraded on request to do also preparation of samples for carbon and nitrogen measurements; 5.Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) profiling for honey authenticity testing–its equipment is used for honey authenticity determination and it is targeted method in comparison to NMR profiling which represents non-targeted method; 6. NMR measurements for wine authenticity testing–its equipment performs analysis of wine, fruit juices, strong spirits and honey and provides more accurate information without the need for comparison with database and extensive statistical processing

Partner sought

Type: Industry & Academia 1. Commercial private or state owned laboratories, 2. Scientific organizations, 3. Official state inspections, 4. Wine producers, 5. Fruit juice producers, 6. Honey distributors, 7. Strong spirit producers, 8. Consumer protection organization, 9. Stable isotope mass spectrometry equipment manufacturers, etc. 10. Dealers, distributors and sale agents of analytical instrumental equipment 11. Financial investors Activity: Companies and institutions (industry & academia) which are active in quality control, traceability of food products, involved and have expertise in authenticity testing such as commercial private or state owned laboratories, R&D Institutes and other scientific organizations, wine, fruit juice and strong spirits producers, honey distributors, customs and state inspections and consumer protections agencies are all potential clients and end users of our equipment as potential buyers or clients. Role: In manufacturing agreement concerning stable isotope mass spectrometry equipment manufacturers (point 10) as potential partner is expected to provide commercial network and sales points at world market through which the company could together offer innovative equipment to the end users. In the beginning the company should work on compatibility equipment testing their IRMS with its universal peripheral in such way that they provide the company with one demo IRMS instrument so that the company could do all necessary compatibility testing and couple the equipment into one final configuration and prepare it for the market. Also partner should be ready to sign with us NDA before starting with activities. In commercial agreement with technical assistance concerning dealers, distributors and sale agents of analytical instrumental equipment (point 11), they need to have all certificates for import-export activities, to have specialize commercial and marketing staff, to have possibilities to support the company’s equipment on their markets, including technical support and possible repairs, to be able to lager spare parts and consumables for an innovative equipment, to have good logistics and also to have financial resources to buy one of the company’s demo equipment for representation to the end users on their market (purchase with accepted discount for demo unit). In financial agreement it is expected from the potential partner – investor (point 12) that it is oriented on agrifood sector and which has high credit rating (liquidity) for minimum last 5 years, that it is oriented towards R&D in the field of food quality control, that it has international reputation and associate contact network in specific organizations, companies and institutions.
